"A foot in the past, an eye to the future"
Chaikin studied Canadian history as an undergraduate student (McGill University, 1984) and a graduate student (Simon Fraser University, 1990), specializing in First Nation-European relations in the Pacific Northwest. As a result of his work, Chaikin was invited to teach post- secondary courses in history and First Nations studies. He co-authored a book and wrote articles examining aspects of federal policies toward First Nations.
Chaikin spent several years freelancing as a researcher for academic, government, and First Nations organizations. He was subsequently employed for 10 years as the senior researcher/analyst for claims and civil litigation submissions on behalf of 36 First Nations occupying the Fraser and Thompson river corridors in British Columbia, Canada.
Chaikin's research and publishing experience led to editing opportunities. He has worked steadily as a freelance proofreader, copy editor, and substantive editor for manuscripts, peer-reviewed articles, technical materials, and business publications.
Chaikin likes cooking, jazz, and HTML, plays Scrabble at the drop of a hat, flies stunt kites, and, after years of trying, wonders how anyone can call golf "relaxing."
